Safeguarding is about being conscious of how we relate with one another—ensuring we do not cause harm and protecting ourselves from being harmed by those we encounter. It requires the wisdom to recognize when someone is being groomed or manipulated for exploitation.
At its core, safeguarding means:
- Protecting the vulnerable: Ensuring that those around us—especially children and vulnerable adults—are safe from all forms of abuse, exploitation, and sexual harassment.
- Creating a respectful work environment: Establishing a safe space where every individual is treated with dignity and respect.
- Recognising mutual vulnerability: Because everyone is vulnerable in different ways, we must proactively learn to protect ourselves, our sisters, and all those placed in our care.
